Percussionist Alexander Lipowski is a current Juilliard student and an active member of the New York City contemporary music scene. He has performed in such leading ensembles as the Second Instrumental Unit, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, the Wet Ink Ensemble, and the Janus Trio. He has also served as Performance Director of the East Coast Composers Ensemble and director of the Juilliard Pierrot Ensemble and Duo Maintenant with whom he commissioned several works for French horn and percussion.
Mr. Lipowski’s solo and chamber music appearances include concerts throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, premiering works by Denisov, Malpica, Aylward, and Cheung. In 2006, he was featured with the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble on NPR’s Performance Today. During the summer of 2007 he toured with Pierre Boulez through Europe and then to Japan performing Boulez’s work, Sur Incises.
Other recent collaborations include the 2007 premiere of a new work of choreography with dancers of the New York City Ballet set to the music of Milton Babbitt and performances with the Columbia Composers Ensemble and the altaVoz ensemble. Recently he recorded works by Alexandre Lunsqui with the Argento Ensemble.
